Ruby slippers meets Red Shoes...
I'm not sure how it came about that I started looking at Catherine Thursby's photos on flickr, but I'm sure it had a lot to do with her user name redshoesllc. It put me in mind of Dorothy's ruby slippers and while I like the Oz movie, it's more some memorable quotes that I've taken to heart...there's no place like home and you've always had it, my dear (in reference to Dorothy's power). Then of course, my old Salty was always being called Toto, even by strangers, to the point where one woman I see walking her dog, still mistakenly calls me Dorothy! From her blog, I linked to Catherine's store called Red Shoes. She is passionate about the things she sells...vintage, cottage and folk goods. A few weeks ago, I spied a crow necklace she had for sale and the crow lover in me knew I had to have it. It's not often I buy something personal for myself, but this spoke to me and is modelled here by my cement crow with the cracked beak...
I emailed Catherine, we then had a chat by phone and she agreed to ship to Canada. I ordered two necklaces (one crow and one Boston terrier for Em) and another incredible item that must remain a secret until Gwen opens it on her birthday. In no time at all, this is what arrived in the mail...
Just look at that sweet packaging, complete with some moo cards and carefully wrapped goodies. I wanted to thank Catherine in a special way, so I roped Dorothy into helping, but unfortunately her ruby slippers look rather pink...
There's links to both Catherine's blog and her store's site in the right column and those of you who visit flickr can see her photos at redshoellc. For the fairy lovers out there, she carries some fairy doors, with links to articles about them. Thank you so much for the personal touches and wonderful things, Catherine...it was a real pleasure doing business with you!

That was such a nice story and Dorothy's shoes are still fantastic, no matter the color!

Wonderful necklace! I love crows as well. We have a few that frequent our garden over here after dinner in the evenings ... looking for a handout I think. Will take a gander at the Red Shoes page next!

Love the crow necklace and crow statue! I will be checking her site too! Is that your little Dorothy holding the card? You know the red shoe/ruby slipper thing is really big where I live! I had these totally awesome candy apple red patent leather shoes when I was 10. They were my favorite shoes to date..I wore them until I had blisters and the soles had holes. I felt empowered wearing them. My youngest daughter had a red glittery pair of shoes that looked almost exactly like Dorothy's...everywhere she went people would notice them and ask her where she got her ruby red slippers. I think she got tired of the attention. Red shoes and living in Kansas can be tricky.
